I remember back in the early days of the good fight. At the time when the struggle really began to explode and take off in its World Wrestling Federation (WWF) days. It was when Hulk Hogan, Macho Man Randy Savage and Andre the Giant were wrestling. Gimmick wrestlers like Iron Sheik, Million Dollar Man and Nikolai Volkov were there as well. There were various and diverse characters who stood out and everyone had a story to tell. And each came in the ring with powerful music and different themes that made them easily identified and cheered or booed.
Hulk Hogan has perhaps the most famous fight songs with "Real American". According to information available on Wikipedia, Hogan originally used the Survivor song Eye of the Tiger, which was the soundtrack to the movie Rocky. Hogan of course had a cameo in the movie Rocky 3. Hulk later started using the air we all know, "Real American" performed by Rick Derringer. The song became synonymous with Hulkamania and fans continue around the world to applaud to it. Somehow fans can not help but feel goosebumps when that tune comes on, if they are at a stage or watching an event WWE at home. It's classic and timeless music we identify with a wrestling legend.
Other very famous pieces of WWE music have been used with The Macho Man Randy Savage and Ric Flair. These two themes of entry are borrowed from classical music, making them more recognizable. The Macho Man used the famous music of Pomp and Circumstance, which is considered the year out at graduation ceremonies. Ric Flair uses the well known Also sprach Zarathustra, op. 30 Richard Strauss. The piece was inspired by a book by Friedrich Nietzsche and has also been used in the film by Stanley Kubrick in 2001.
Over the years WWE has brought many more popular wrestlers, each with music and songs separate theme. There's the famous entrance of Stone Cold Steve Austin, with glass shattering pitch to start off. There's famous entrance song which Rock has the bravado and smooth funk even Cocky of The People's Champ. Without famous bell Undertaker followed by his eery organ that could be heard in a funeral home. John Cena is one of the few superstars to record his own music to use as an entrance theme. There are many others, including topical theme music for wrestlers like Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Batista and Rey Mysterio ..
It's music that makes WWE just as good as the action in wrestling ring. The music pumps up the fans and gets them ready for action. It also gives us an identification mark for each wrestler, just as symbolic as their finishing moves. WWE music will always live, after having struggled long careers end.
