What to ask seller for when purchasing a used engagement ring?
We are thinking about purchasing a used engagement ring through an individual seller. What should we ask for when purchasing the ring? GIA certificate, etc? Thank you!
Ring is a a little over 1 ct, Rectangular Modified Brillant cut. Near colorless and VS1-VS2 Clarity, solitaire setting. Seller is asking $2500.
That is very high, generally the return on buying a used ring is 25 percent, and likely its not certified because if it was it would not give a clarity rating of two different ones VS1 and VS2, and to say near colorless that is 4 different color grades G-H-I-J, also doesn’t give the exact carat wt. What is the metal? Cut? Measurements? Table/depth? Polish/symmetry? Girdle? Fluorescence? I don’t know why you wouldn’t buy something brand new for less money that is certified with a great cut and is better quality.

This is 1.02 ct radiant a J/VS2 so far the same as what you’ve got there a little over 1ct, near colorless, VS2 clarity except this diamond is new, GIA certified, premium cut, with very good polish and symmetry, a good girdle and costs 1967, and you would have to look at settings

Uncertified diamonds with an in-house grading can be up to 2 grades off in color and clarity (so can EGL very lax on grading standards) this is why most people recommend AGS or GIA because if it says it that is what it really is.
I would want to know where and when it was purchased, if its enhanced (color or clarity) as well as all the specs and the original paperwork
